Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands provide a great, refreshing escape from downtown with a beautiful view of Lake Ontario on one side, and the city skyline on the other. The Islands area is a great place to bask on blue flag beaches, and offers other tourist features such as the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, Franklin Children’s Garden, Centreville Amusement Park, and Far Enough Farm.

The Toronto Islands are a chain of small islands in the city of Toronto. Comprising the only group of islands in the western part of Lake Ontario, the Toronto Islands are located just offshore from the city centre, and provide shelter for Toronto harbour. The islands are a popular recreational destination, and are home to a small residential community and to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The 800 feet pedestrian tunnel will have moving sidewalks and elevators at both ends. The islands comprise the largest urban car-free community in North America, though some services vehicles are permitted. Recreational bicyclists are accommodated on the ferries, and bicycles, quadricycles, and canoes can be rented on the islands as well.

Toronto Eaton Center

The Toronto Eaton Centre is shopping mall and office complex in downtown Toronto and was named after the now defunct Eaton’s department store chain that once anchored it. Its interior passages also form part of Toronto’s PATH underground pedestrian network, and the centre is served by two Toronto subway stations: Dundas and Queen. The complex also contains three office buildings and the Ryerson university Ted Rogers School of Management. Additionally, the Eaton Centre is linked to a 17-storey Marriott hotel, and to Canada’s largest store, the flagship location of the Hudson’s Bay department store chain.

Air Canada Center

Air-Canada-Centre_2Since 1999 the Air Canada Centre has been home to two of this city’s professional sports franchises – the Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The state-of-the-art facility features a BOSE sound system, four Sony Jumbotrons and more than 640 televisions throughout the bulding making it the perfect sports or concert venue. Since its first concert, a sold out show by Canada’s own Tragically Hip the ACC has hosted top rockers like Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, U2 and Sir Paul McCartney. The arena is owned and operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE), the same group that owns both the leafs and Raptors, and is 665,000 square feet in size. In 2008, the ACC was the fifth busiest arena in the world and the busiest in Canada. Air Canada Centre is connected to Union Station and the underground pedestrian PATH system providing access to public transportation. There are also 13,000 parking spaces. The ACC has, from its initial design to completion, has revolutionized many concepts and features luxury suites accessible on the ground floor, splitting the main scoreboard into several sections, rotating all sponsor signage in the bowl at once, and multiple restaurants in and out of the main arena bowl view.

Rogers Center

Untitled-1Rogers Centre (Also known as SkyDome) is a multi-purpose stadium in downtown Toronto that is situated next to the CN Tower near the shores of Lake Ontario. The Rogers Centre is the home to the Toronto Blue Jays of MLB and Toronto Agronauts of the Canadian Football League. Since 20087, the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League have played several regular-season and pre-season games at the stadium, as part of the Bills Toronto Series. While it is primarily a sports venue, it also hosts other large-scale events such as conventions, trade fairs, concerts, travelling, funfairs, and monster truck shows!

The venue was noted for being the first stadium to have a fully retractable motorized roof, as well as for the 348-room hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. It is also the most recent North American major-league stadium built to accommodate both football and baseball. The stadium will be the site of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2015 Pan American Games. Rogers Centre is also home to Roundhouse Park, which is located just outside gate five. The park is a perfect venue for a variety of pre-game events, including concerts, picnics and barbecues.

Canada’s Wonderland

misc_AcrossLake_largeCanada’s Wonderland is a 330-acre theme park located in Vaughn, Ontario. Just a bus ride away from the city it is located in a suburb directly north of Toronto. It was originally opened and operated by the Taft Broadcasting Company and The Great-West Life Assurance Company in 1981 then owned by Paramount Parks from 1994 to 2006 when it was known as Paramount Canada’s Wonderland. Since 2006 the park has been owned and operated Cedar Fair. It is the first and largest theme park in Canada.

This theme park is open daily from May to September and then only on weekends until the beginning of November. The park has 16 roller coasters (more than any other park outside of the United States) and features a 20-acre water park called splash work sand. It also has 200 attractions, 68 thrilling rides, and North America’s greatest variety or roller coasters. It’s fall season includes Halloween Haunt, a Halloween-themed event featuring haunted attractions in areas throughout the park.

In 2014 we will see the unveiling of a thrilling new interactive 4-D dark ride inside the depths of Wonder Mountain, with the introduction of Wonder Mountain’s Guardian. Riders will experience stunning 3D effects overlaid with 4-D elements, encountering mythical creatures on a quest will culminate in an ultimate battle with a heart stopping finale that will shock thrill seekers of all ages!

The Distillery Historic District

download (3)The Distillery District is a historic and entertainment precinct located east of Downtown Toronto. It contains numerous cafĂ©s, restaurants, and shops housed within heritage buildings of the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery. The 13 acre district comprises more than 40 heritage buildings and 10 streets, and is the largest collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America. Since home to the largest distillery in the British Empire, Toronto’s restored Distillery District is a stunning backdrop for a multiplicity of functions. Toronto Zoo

The zoo is located near the Rouge River, along the western border of Rouge Park in the city’s east end. Encompassing 287 hectares, the Toronto Zoo is the largest zoo in Canada. It is divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Tundra Trek, Australasia, Eurasia, and the Canadian Domain. Some animals are displayed indoors in tropical pavilions and outdoors in what would be their naturalistic environments, with viewing at many levels. The zoo is currently home to over 5,000 animals representing over 450 species.

Casa Loma

14880Casa Loma is a Gothic Revival style house and gardens in midtown Toronto that doubles as a museum and a landmark! It was originally a residence for financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Casa Loma is a grand mansion on 5 acres in downtown Toronto bbuilt in the early 1900’s and famed for its extravagance and size. Today, “Canada’s Castle” and its gardens are open to visitors and offers self-guided audio tours in several languages. Casa Loma has also served as the set for several Hollywood movies, including Chicago and X-men.

 

Hockey Hall of Fame

It holds exhibits about teams, players, National Hockey League (NHL) records, memorabilia and NHL trophies, including the Stanley Cup. AGO – Art Gallery of Ontario

download (2)The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is an art museum in Toronto’s downtown Grange Park. This art gallery has a collection that includes more than 80,000 works spanning the 1st century to the present day. The gallery has 45,000 square metres of physical space, making it one of the largest galleries in North America. Significant collections include the largest collection of Canadian art, an expansive body of works from the renaissance and the Baroque eras, European art, African and Oceanic art, and a modern and contemporary collection.

The photography collection is a large part of the collection, as well as an extensive drawing and prints collection. The museum contains many significant sculptures, such as the Henry Moore sculpture centre, and represents other forms of art like historic objects, miniatures, frames, books and medieval illuminations, film and video art, graphic art, installations, architecture, and ship models. During the AGO’s history, it has hosted and organized some of the world’s most renowned and significant exhibitions, an continues to do so, to this day.
